Building a community for foster families

Home: Welcome

Elysium Sanctuary is an Oregon-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to building a community, expanding support, and enriching the lives of the youth in foster care and their families. We believe in a world where all youth receive the guardianship, support, and life skills they need to thrive.

Home: Who We Are

“It takes a village to raise a child.”

- African proverb

One of the biggest barriers for foster youth and their families is the feeling of isolation. Connecting foster youth and their families with one another generates the solidarity, practical resources, and emotional support needed to tackle obstacles and achieve growth together.

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world."

- Nelson Mandela

Foster Youth: Improving the quality and quantity of educational opportunities for foster youth is essential for ensuring that they have the knowledge, skills, and experiences they need to pursue their ambitions and contribute to a better world.

Resource (foster) Parents & Guardians: Training resource parents, families, and other caretakers on how to best support their foster youth and themselves creates positive environments for addressing past trauma and achieving personal growth.

Public: Educating the public on the realities of foster care increases support and reduces the stigma that prevents foster youth from achieving positive life outcomes.

"Sustainable development is the pathway to the future we want for all."

- United Nations

As we face greater and greater environmental threats, it’s more important than ever that our youth and communities develop a sense of connection with and responsibility for the natural world.

"Animals are such agreeable friends. They ask no questions. They pass no criticisms."

- George Eliot

Beyond the friendships developed through community, animal companionship offers unique psychological benefits and can help foster youth develop healthy bonds and life skills.
